ADMISSION PROFILE

The applicant who wants to study Sociology must have:

 

INTERESTS:

In relationships and interactions between people and groups; in problems, processes and structures that characterize social organizations and institutions and how they affect human behavior and their actions; as well as transformations in societies in a changing world, by general culture, sustainable development, and by the interaction between society and environment.

 

APTITUDES:

Basic abilities to reading and writing. Ability to identify and organize problems based on analysis and synthesis of information, also to make own valuation judgments; be flexible in changing social and geographic environments.

 

ATTITUDES:

Have intellectual curiosity and creativity to look for answers; be independent and have spirit of service and social commitment.

OCCUPATIONAL FIELD

1.Scientific, research, independent consulting, teaching and social promotion fields in public, private and social sectors.  

 

2.Sociologist works on investigations center doing interdisciplinary studies with the purpose to applying theoretical-methodological knowledge to solve specific social problems.

 

3.They do teaching activities and culture extensions in social sciences area, in cultural and educational institutions of intermediate-superior and superior level.

 

4.They do diagnostic, management and intervention to help organization processes and social development in public and private sector as well as in rural and urban communities.

 

5.In private organizations, sociologist does analysis activities and transdisciplinary intervention for the resolution of conflicts which appear in inter-human relations.

 

6.Sociologist  produce formative programs in public, social and private fields; at the same time, evaluates impact of educational actions in groups or community.

GRADUATED PROFILE:

The graduated of Sociology Degree, must have skills, values and thinking skills for investigating, teaching, management and intervention in the social field through the following skills: research, manage, intervene and generate formative programs.

The sociologist is the professional that has the skill to analyze systematically, objectively and critically the social aggregates. It has intellectual capacity to interrelate biography, History and social structure.

 

Based on these professional skills, the graduates will be able to:

  • Investigate local, regional, national and international phenomena and social problems, initiating from theoretical and methodological elements management, to understand and explain social phenomena, with objectivity and honesty.

  • Intervene appropriately in social fields, through theory application and methods intervention to solve specific groups and communities problems, with respect and social responsibility.

  • Control implementation of plans, projects and policies through theoretical and methodological tools application and negotiation skills to help establish respectful and synergistic relationships with public, private or community sectors that are involved.

  • Generate educational programs applicable to different contexts, while using social sciences methodologies o and theoretical-practical elements, taking into consideration heterogeneity, multiculturality and particular points, to achieve transmission of pertinent knowledge that promote its development, with tolerance attitude and respect for differences.
